This is Jazz Richard-Ricke. She’s 13-years-old, she’s black, and she’s been missing in Portland since Wednesday night. When her family went to police for help, they released statements to media misgendering her and dead-naming her, and countless news sources shared the same misinformation.
Jazz is a little black girl who was last seen in northeast Portland at a youth organization called Harry’s Mother and was supposed to board a bus headed downtown but never arrived.
If you or anyone you know has seen her, please say something. And please share this article I wrote for her - the only news release at all to not dead-name her - and ask people sharing misgendering stories to do the same.
It’s been two days and her family and loved ones want people looking for the right person, the little girl they love who deserves to be named and gendered correctly.
